My name is Grace Carmichael. I am a twenty-year-old collegiate athlete who plays soccer at theUniversity of St.Thomas. I have been playing soccer for around 14-15 years and have gone through numerous training programs involving weightlifting and speed and agility work before going to Advrsty. I spent the summer prior to my junior season training with Tyler Dahl, and I saw an immediate improvement in both my strength for my upper and lower body. I was one of the first girls Dahl had trained one-on-one, so in the early sessions, he helped me gauge where to start regarding weight and how to really push myself to see improvements going forward. One of the elements of his training approach that I really liked, which I do not always see in other weight room programs, is how he gave me feedback. Dahl really pushed me to move up in the weight that I was using for exercises. There would be some moments where I would give push back because I believed I would not be able to do certain weights, but he told me to go up anyway, and that is the kind of push I needed to see improvements that I was not seeing prior to training with him. Dahl has a very encouraging coaching style that made the workouts ten times more fun and made me enjoy weightlifting. The other element of his training that I really liked is how, with other weightlifting programs I did, I saw little improvement over a long period of time, whereas when I trained with Dahl, I saw an immediate difference in such a short period, which makes a world of difference when I am trying to get ready for my soccer season. I believe one of the reasons that I saw a more immediate improvement was because of how focused he was on making sure I had the correct form when going through each exercise. Another part of Dahl’s training that I saw a progression in was the huge increase in my explosive speed when I started back up in my soccer season. One of the things I think I lack as a player is speed, but Dahl’s training helped me improve one weakness in my playing style. Overall, the training that I spent with him over the summer was definitely worthwhile, and I will be returning this upcoming summer to prepare for my senior season with him
